Tan tan taadidan, tan tan taadidan, tan tan taadidan...

...start spreading the news...
...went there for a day...
...I did not see it all, not yet...
...New York, New Yooooooooork!!!

I went to New York freaking City!!

Got up at 7AM, packed my bag, did not check my face in a mirror, walked over to 30th Street Station and took the 8AM SEPTA train to Trenton, New Jersey. There, I got on another train, this time New Jersey Transit, that took me all the way to NYP: New York, Penn Station.

Watch it! - at 30th Street Station, Philadelphia

The train to Trenton pulling into the station.

There and back - SEPTA.

On the NJT on the way to NYP. Your ticket goes on the headrest, so it can be validated and checked at any time.

Now, imagine me, who's never been to NYC before, ever, and who was already excited out of her mind to be in Philadelphia, emerge from Penn Station and stand on 7th Avenue in front of Madison Square Garden. MSfG!!! Can you imagine this?

My first glimpse of the Big Apple.

It was the biggest effort for me just to keep my face from splitting into a huge grin and go "hihihihihi" every time I looked at anything. Anything! Highrises, taxis, lamp posts even! I've been to so many places, so many of them truly awesome, but for some reason New York just got to me. Straight to the head! I had not expected this kind of reaction from myself, especially because I was feeling all normal and sane on the trains going there, but as soon as I stepped out of the station and onto the street I was done for. I felt completely and utterly unable to contain my excitement... Even now, two days later, I can't say anything apart from: OMG NYC!

This describes what was going on in my head:

"OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!"

As most of the time, I was not alone, though. Mari was already back in New York, having left Florida a day before I flew up to Philadelphia. She took her whole day to hang out with me and walk around the city with me, have "typical" (what's typical in my head is not typical in everybody's head, but she stayed by my side) food with me and basically enjoy NYC with me. At least that's what she said, that she enjoyed it too. I truly hope it's true, because I wouldn't want to think that she didn't have as great a time as I did, even though NY isn't new to her.

I have almost 300 pictures from that day, but if you know me in person, then you'll know that that's actually a surprisingly low figure. I've come home from birthday lunches with more pictures than from that day in New York! I don't understand it, really, but I'm trying not to pay it too much heed, it certainly doesn't reflect how much I loved my time there.

I'm going to split this up into various posts, more or less like I have with Copenhagen, because there's so many things I want to tell you and show you and it would be such a long post, I wouldn't even read it myself, I think.

So this is just an introduction, basically, to what's coming at you. A teaser, of sorts.

Or maybe a repellent, I don't know.

I'll keep writing either way.

Stay tuned.
